On Tuesday 25 November 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the President, Global Filipinos Australia, Ms Lolita Farmer OAM.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted a Christmas Party for children from: Autism Asperger Association ACT; Barnados; Camp Quality; Cystic Fibrosis Association of the ACT; Diabetes ACT; Down Syndrome Association ACT; St Vincent de Paul; the Salvation Army; and The Smith Family; Later, the Governor-General received the Chair of CARE Australia, Mr Peter Smedley and the Chief Executive of CARE Australia, Dr Julia Newton-Howes. Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the Governor-General of the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Sir Nathaniel Waena GCMG CSI KStJ, by Brigadier Christopher Hamilton ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
