On Thursday 2 October 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received from His Excellency Mr Carlos Sanchez De Boado Y De La Valgoma, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Salvador Maspock (Minister-Counsellor), Mr Carlos Aragon (Counsellor) and Captain Eduardo Bernal (Defence Liaison Officer), Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain. The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE also received Mrs Elena Torreguitar Delpech.
Afterwards, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Alberto Leopoldo Fajardo, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Andres Pelaez (Second Secretary), Embassy of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. Later, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Omar Metwally Mohamed Tawfic Metwally, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Moustapha Elkouny (Counsellor) and Mr Ahmed Abu Moussa (Third Secretary), Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Governor-General and Mr Bryce also received Mrs Ghada Salah Elhindawy. Then, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Dainius Petras Kamaitis, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Andrew Zilinskas (Honorary Consul-General), Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania. Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted to lunch: the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain and Mrs Elena Torreguitar Delpech; the Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay; the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt His Excellency and Mrs Ghada Salah Elhindawy; the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, His Excellency Mr Dainius Petras Kamaitis; Mrs Judith Blackall; Mr Jose Blanco and Mrs Leona Blanco; Mr Charles Curran AC; Dr John Minns and Ms Sophie Singh; Mr Jonas Mockunas and Mrs Phyllis Mockunas; Mr Lorenzo Montesini; Mr Robert Newton and Mrs Linda Newton; Ms Pamela O'Grady, Mr David Ritchie AO; Mr Bernard Wheelahan and Mrs Helen Wheelahan; and Mr Andrew Zilinskas. In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General administered the oath of office to the Administrator of the Territory of Norfolk Island, Mr Owen Walsh.
