On Monday 28 July 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received the Australian Ambassador designate to the Argentine Republic, Mr John Richardson.

Afterwards, at the Australian Federal Police College, Barton, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery, as guests of honour, attended a morning tea hosted by the Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, Commissioner Mick Keelty APM. Later, at Government House, Their Excellencies hosted a luncheon for the Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Mr Terry Moran AO and Ms Jenny Noyce. In the evening, Their Excellencies hosted a reception for the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellows (ACT) 2008, at which the Governor-General, as Patron, presented 2008 Churchill Fellowship awards to the ACT recipients. Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the Governor-General of Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Grand Chief Sir Paulius Matane, GCL GCMG KStJ, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
