On Saturday 9 February 2008, at The Strand, Townsville, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, laid a wreath at the Royal Australian Regiment Association (QLD Division) 60th Anniversary Parade and Memorial Service. Afterwards, the Governor-General attended a morning tea hosted by the President, Mr Rod McLean AM, and members of the Townsville Returned and Services League.

In the evening, at the Returned and Services League Club, Townsville, the Governor-General presented the Best All Round Soldier awards at the Royal Australian Regiment (QLD Division) Annual Dinner.
