On Tuesday 6 November 2007, at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, Victoria, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery, as guests of the Chairman and Committee of the Victoria Racing Club, attended the 2007 Emirates Melbourne Cup Carnival, at which the Governor-General presented the Emirates Melbourne Cup to the winning owner.

Earlier, at Sydney International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the Governor-General of New Zealand, the Honourable Anand Satyanand, PCNZM, QSO, by Colonel Stephen P. Tulley, AM, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
