On Wednesday 17 October 2007 at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, at Parliament House, Canberra, the Governor-General's proclamation dissolving the House of Representatives was read by the Official Secretary, Mr Malcolm Hazell CVO. Later, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General presided at a further meeting of the Federal Executive Council to issue writs for the forthcoming Federal election. Earlier, at St Stephen's Cathedral Brisbane Queensland, the Governor-General was represented by Commander Forbes Peters RAN, an Honorary ADC, at the Military Funeral of the late Trooper David Pearce.
