On Thursday 20 September 2007, at Campbell Barracks, Swanbourne, WA, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force and Honorary Colonel of the Special Air Service Regiment, and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended a Memorial Service to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Special Air Service Regiment.

Afterwards, Their Excellencies attended an Investiture Ceremony for Special Air Service Regiment personnel, at which the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested recipients with the insignia of their appointment in the Order. The Governor-General also presented a Unit Commendation for Gallantry to the Special Air Service Regiment and a Meritorious Unit Commendation to the Special Operations Command Australia. Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery attended a parade at which the Governor-General, as Honorary Colonel of the Special Air Service Regiment, presented berets to unit members. In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery attended the Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major Dinner. Earlier, Mrs Jeffery attended the official launch of the book Those Who Care for Those Who Dare.
