On Tuesday, 4 September 2007, at Defence Establishment Fairbairn, ACT, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended the Ceremonial Arrival of the President of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Hu Jintao.

In the evening, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General and Mrs??Jeffery received the President of the People's Republic of China, accompanied by the Head of the General Office, Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, His Excellency Wang Gang; Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Yang Jiechi; Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Zhang Junsai; Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr He Yafei; and the Australian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Dr Geoff Raby. Afterwards, Their Excellencies hosted a State Dinner in honour of the President. The??President was accompanied by: His Excellency Wang Gang; His Excellency Yang Jiechi; His Excellency Ma Kai; His Excellency Bo Xilai; Mr Wang Huning; His??Excellency Zhang Junsai and Madame Yin Guomei; Mr Chen Shiju; Mr He Yafei; Mr Yang Guisen; and Mr Liu Jieyi. Other guests were: Mr Tom Albanese; Professor Andrew Blakers; Dr Heather Neilson; His Excellency Dr Hans Demel and Dr Gloria Demel; Senator the Honourable Alan Ferguson and Mrs Anne Ferguson; the Honourable Chief Justice Murray Gleeson AC; Mr Charles Goode AC and Mrs??Cornelia Goode; Mr Chip Goodyear; the Honourable David Hawker MP and Mrs??Penny Hawker; Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AO AFC and Mrs Liz Houston; Professor Kurt Lambeck and Mrs Meg Lambeck; Mr Ken Matthews AO and Mrs Margaret Matthews; Mr Sidney Myer and Mrs Fiona Myer; Mr Ralph Norris and Mrs Pam Norris; Dr Geoff Raby; Dr Peter Shergold AC and Ms Carol Green; and the Honourable Tony Smith MP. Later, the Governor-General was represented at Sydney International Airport at the arrival in Australia of the President of the United States of America, the Honourable George W. Bush, by Colonel Bill Monfries, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
