On Monday 12 March 2007, at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, Barton, ACT Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended the Inaugural Multi-faith Commonwealth Day Celebration Service at which the Governor-General, as Patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society ACT Branch, read a Commonwealth Day message from Her Majesty The Queen.

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra the Governor-General received members of CSIRO: the Chief Executive, Dr Geoff Garrett; the Group Executive, Sustainable Environment and Energy, Dr Steve Morton; and the Executive officer, Climate, Dr Paul Holper. In the evening, at University House, Australian National University, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery attended the Annual Commonwealth Day Dinner, at which the Governor-General, as Patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society ACT Branch, delivered the keynote address.
