Mount Isa; Normanton, Queensland
On Tuesday 17 November 2020, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC Retd and Mrs Linda Hurley participated in a morning walk with the Gecko Walking Group at the Mount Isa Lookout.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Danielle Slade, Mayor, attended a ceremonial tree planting in honour of the Mount Isa Pioneers at Buchanan Park.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Danielle Slade, Mayor, visited the heritage-listed Casa Grande in Mt Isa.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Matt O'Neill, Chief Operating Officer, visited and met with staff of Glencore Mines Mount Isa.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Danielle Slade, Mayor, attended a lunch and met with Senior School Leaders at Mt Isa City Council Chambers.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Mt Isa to Normanton, Queensland.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Verena Olesch, General Manager Tourism, Carpentaria Shire Council, visited and met with staff at the Les Wilson Barramundi Discovery Centre.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Jack Bawden, Mayor of Carpentaria Shire, attended a reception for regional tourism operators and community representatives at the Sunset Tavern.
