Karumba; Normanton, Queensland
On Wednesday 18 November 2020, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC Retd and Mrs Linda Hurley participated in an early morning walk with community members and in Karumba.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Karumba to Normanton, Queensland.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Jack Bawden, Mayor, received an update on regional issues from representatives of Carpentaria Council, followed by a student leaders briefing at the Carpentaria Shire Council Chambers.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Jack Bawden, Mayor, hosted a barbeque for community representatives involved in flood recovery and rebuilding at Normanton Railway Station.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley as guests of Cr Amanda Scott, Club President, met with junior members of the Gulf Muddy's Rugby League Team at the John Henry Memorial.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as Joint Patrons and guests of Ms Irene Fitzsimons and Ms Barb Wollner, visited the Country Women’s Association Normanton Branch Art Shed.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Verena Olesch, General Manager – Tourism, Carpentaria Shire Council, visited the Indigenous Stockmen’s Display at the Burns Philip Building.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Jack Bawden, Mayor, attended a dinner with representatives of surrounding local government areas at the Central Hotel.
