On Thursday 10 February 2022, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), accompanied by Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, received Letters of Credence accrediting His Excellency Mr Qian Xiao as the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Xining Wang, Minister, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Wei Li, Counsellor, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Mr Tuan Jiang, Acting Military Attaché, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, accompanied by Mrs Hurley, received Letters of Credence accrediting His Excellency Mr Vitaliano Gaspa Gallardo Valencia as the Ambassador of the Republic of Peru. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mrs Ljubinka Milla Petkovich Portocarrero, Spouse, Mr Ivan Alexander Silva Rivera, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Republic of Peru, Mr Daniel Torres Pinguz, Consular, Embassy of the Republic of Peru, and Captain Diego Gago Rojas, Defence Attaché, Embassy of the Republic of Peru.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a lunch for newly accredited Heads of Mission. Guests included: His Excellency Mr Vitaliano Gaspa Gallardo Valencia, Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of Peru, and Mrs Ljubinka Milla Petkovich Portocarrero, Spouse; His Excellency Dr Ali Kraishan, Ambassador, Embassy of the Kingdom of Jordan, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Mrs Lubna Kraishan, Spouse; Mr Craig Maclachlan, Deputy Secretary, Security, Legal and Consular Group, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and representing the Foreign Minister; Mr Ian McConville, Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Mr Ivan Alexander Silva Rivera, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Republic of Peru; Mr Paul Singer MVO, Official Secretary to the Governor-General; Mr Xining Wang, Minister, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, and His Excellency Mr Qian Xiao, Ambassador, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Lakshman Prasad OAM, President, Canberra Telugu Vaani and Samithi Inc., attended the 25th anniversary celebrations of Canberra Telugu Vaani Radio.
