On Wednesday 16 March 2022, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Mullumbimby, New South Wales.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Sarah Ndiaye, Deputy Mayor, Byron Shire Council, received a briefing on the progress of flood recovery in Mullumbimby and surrounding areas.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Vanessa Adams, Director Corporate and Community Services, Byron Shire Council, met with flood-affected residents and representatives of local, state and federal support agencies.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Jenelle Stanford, President, Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce, met with flood-affected small business owners.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Detective Chief Inspector Matt Kehoe, Officer-in-Charge - Byron Bay Police Station, met with flood-affected residents and community members involved in flood recovery operations.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Chief Inspector Paul Copeland, Local Commander, met with members of the NSW SES’ Mullumbimby Unit.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Mullumbimby, New South Wales, to Sydney, New South Wales.
