Leanne Miller AM

Although her mother and grandmother have both received recognition through the Australian honours system, Leanne Miller AM was still surprised and shocked to learn of her own nomination for an honour.

“It is perhaps turning into a family tradition in some way; my mother, Frances Mathyssen (nee Briggs) AM (2021) and my grandmother, Geraldine Briggs AO (1991) both received honours within the Order of Australia.” 

Ms Miller says, “I am motivated in my work by being grounded and nourished in my own cultural identities which supports me to steer a course of social justices and reciprocity.”  

 “I have been delighted to take on paid and unpaid roles, which have evolved into some amazing policy and community contributions that benefit the wider community. I am especially proud of reports that examine the impacts of discrimination on women in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.”
