Apia, Samoa; Nuku’alofa, Tonga
On Friday 23 June 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Apia, Samoa to Nuku’alofa, the Kingdom of Tonga.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley were met by Ms Miriam Carter, Charge d’Affaires to the Kingdom of Tonga; the Honourable Vaipulu, Deputy Prime Minister, and the Honourable 'Utoikamanu, Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, met with His Majesty King Tupou VI, King of the Kingdom of Tonga; and Her Majesty Queen Tuku’aho, Queen of the Kingdom of Tonga.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, met with the Honourable Hu’akavameiliku, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, and members from the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of the Honourable Hu’akavameiliku, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, attended a lunch with cabinet members of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Brigadier General Lord Fielakepa, Chief of Defence Staff, met with staff and Defence personnel at the Masefield Navy Base and inspected a Guard of Honour.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley attended a medal presentation ceremony at which the Governor-General presented a recipient with the Australian Operational Service Medal - Civillian, at the Australian High Commission.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Reverend ‘Alifeleti ‘Atiola, Principal, visited and met with students and staff of Topou College, and conducted a tree planting ceremony. The Crown Prince of Tonga Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala and Crown Princess Sinaitakala were also in attendance.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, travelled from Nuku’alofa, Tonga, to Apia, Samoa.
