Apia, Samoa; Funafuti, Tuvalu
On Monday 26 June 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Apia, Samoa, to Funafuti, Tuvalu.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley were met by Mr Tony Walter, Acting Australian High Commissioner to Tuvalu and representatives of the Government of Tuvalu, including His Excellency the Reverend Sir Tofgia Vaevalu Falani GCMG MBE, Governor-General of Tuvalu.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of the Honourable Seve Paeniu, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, visited and met with personnel involved in the Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project (TCAP).
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of the Honourable Kausea Natano, Prime Minister of Tuvalu, attended a lunch with members of the Parliament of Tuvalu.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Reverend Alamatiga Lusama, Head of the Fetu Ao Lima Church, attended a church tour with community representatives.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Lieutenant Commander Dennis Carroll RAN, met with Australian Defence Force advisors and received briefing on Tuvalu’s role in WWII at the American War Memorial.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley attended a farewell ceremony at Funafuti International Airport, after which they travelled from Funafuti, Tuvalu, to Apia, Samoa.
