On Thursday 7 September 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Parkes, New South Wales.

Afterwards, Mrs Hurley, as Patron, and the Governor-General, as guests of Ms Barbie Bates, Executive Director, attended Paint the Town REaD’s 9th National Early Literacy Conference.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley attended a lunch with local student leaders and school representatives of schools in Parkes and the region.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr John Sarkissian, Lead Operations Scientist, met with staff at CSIRO Parkes Observatory.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Parkes, New South Wales, to Hobart, Tasmania.
