On Friday 20 October 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), and Mrs Linda Hurley, as Joint Patrons, hosted an awards presentation ceremony for the Australian Rotary Districts and Clubs’ Emergency Services Community Award.
Then, the Governor-General received a phone call from Ms Alison Frame, Secretary, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Ms Jane Hardy, Assistant Secretary, Western Europe Branch, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with His Excellency Mr Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a lunch in honour of His Excellency Mr Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania. Members of the Lithuanian delegation included: Mrs Diana Nausėdienė, First Lady; His Excellency Mr Darius Degutis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, and his spouse, Ms Nida Degutienė; Ms Ieva Ulčickaitė, Chief Adviser of the Cabinet of the President; Ms Asta Skaisgirytė, Chief Adviser for Foreign Policy to the President; Mr Frederikas Jansonas, Chief Adviser for Communications to the President; Ms Elona Kazakevičienė Chief Protocol Adviser to the President; Ms Jolanta Urbanovič, Adviser for Education, Science and Culture to the President; Mr Vaidas Augustinavičius, Adviser for Economics to the President; Ms Dalia Tamošiūnienė Adviser for Foreign Policy to the President; and Ms Dalia Šalkauskienė Adviser for Foreign Policy to the President. Members of the Australian delegation included: Mr Justin Bassi, Executive Director, Australian Strategic Policy Institute; Mr Daniel Boyer; Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Australian Trade and Investment Commission; General Angus Campbell AO DSC, Chief of the Australian Defence Force; Ms Jane Hardy, Assistant Secretary, Western Europe Branch, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Mr Hugh Jeffrey, Deputy Secretary Strategy, Policy, and Industry, the Department of Defence; Senator Deborah O'Neill, Chair, Baltic Friendship Group; Professor Rory Medcalf, Head of the National Security College, Australian National University; Senator James Paterson, Deputy Chair, Baltic Friendship Group; and Mr Paul Singer MVO, Official Secretary, Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted an afternoon tea for volunteers of Aussie Hero Quilts.
Later, the Governor-General received a phone call from the Honourable Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia.
