Longreach, Dalby, Ipswich, Queensland

On Thursday 2 November 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Mr Danny Stanton, Regional Manager, Fortem Australia, joined frontline staff and first responders on a morning walk and BBQ breakfast.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Longreach to Dalby, Queensland.

On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Paul McVeigh, Mayor, Western Downs Regional Council, and Major General Jake Ellwood DSC AM CSC (Retd), CEO, Queensland Reconstruction Authority, received a briefing on response and relief efforts following bushfires in the Western Downs region.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor McVeigh, visited and met with members of the Western Downs Disaster Management Co-ordination Centre, and later, the Incident Control Centre.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor McVeigh and Major General Ellwood, visited the Dalby Evacuation Centre, and met with evacuees and representatives of relief agencies.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, travelled from Dalby to Ipswich, Queensland.
