Governor-General to visit Indonesia

The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will visit Indonesia from 14-18 May. 

 

The visit is an opportunity to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between our nations. 

 

During the visit the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will meet with His Excellency President Joko Widodo and Her Excellency First Lady Iriana Widodo. 

                                                                                         

“Indonesia is — and always will be — one of Australia’s most important strategic partners. Neighbours by geography, we are partners and friends by choice. I aim to celebrate that friendship and acknowledge the many people from both nations who contribute to it during my visit,” the Governor-General said.

 

The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will also:

  • Visit the Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral
  • Meet with the Defence Alumni Association of Indonesia - Australia (IKAHAN) Senior Advisory Group and alumni (the Governor-General helped co-found IKAHAN while serving in the Australian Defence Force) to celebrate 50 years of Military Academy Exchanges
  • Speak at a Gala event to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, our education links and alumni community 
  • Visit the ASEAN-Australia 50th anniversary photo exhibition at the ASEAN Secretariat
  • As Patron, meet with participants and alumni from the Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange Program and Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program.

 

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, will serve as Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the visit.
