Alan Coulter OAM
Alan Coulter OAM will leave a lasting legacy to his local community, in more ways than one.
Mr Coulter was manager of the Renmark Recreation Centre from 1984 to 2016, where he oversaw the development and improvement of the two-court basketball, netball, volleyball and indoor soccer centre.
The centre, also fully equipped with a gym and indoor heated pool, was renamed the Alan Coulter Recreation Centre in honour of his contributions.
For his work in his local area, Mr Coulter was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to community sport.
Mr Coulter is current coach at The Vitor Renmark Amateur Swimming Club, and lecturer for the South Australian Sports Medicine, Level 1 and Level 2.
Over the course of 47 years, he was an instructor at the Renmark Rovers Club’s fitness programs for footballers, Renmark Netball Club, Renmark Marathon Rowing Team, and clinical educator Personal Trainer certificate III at TAFE SA.
He was awarded the Citizen of the Year in 2024 by the Renmark Paringa Council.
Mr Coulter says he is motivated by the change he sees in those impacted by his work.
“My motivation comes from seeing young athletes breaking their personal records, teams winning premierships, major post-operative knee and hip replacement clients improving their range of joint movement and working with clients suffering serious illness to improve their quality of life,” he says.
“When I found out about the nomination, I was in disbelief, honoured, and humbled at the same time.
“I was completely caught off guard, I had no idea that I had been recommended ... however, I feel there would be a conglomerate of past and present clients who have contributed to this. To those, I say thank you.”
