On Wednesday 18 December 2019, in Kabul, Afghanistan, the Governor-General, His Excellency the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), continued his visit to Australian military and diplomatic personnel in the Middle East region, accompanied by General Angus Campbell AO DSC, Chief of the Defence Force, and Rear Admiral Mark Hill CSC RAN, Commander Joint Task Force 633.
In the morning, the Governor-General met with Australian defence personnel of Task Group Afghanistan in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Governor-General also took the opportunity to conduct promotions and to present honours and awards to members of the task group.
Afterwards, the Governor-General met with His Excellency Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General met with Australian defence personnel deployed at the Headquarters of NATO Mission Resolute Support in Kabul, Afghanistan, and took the opportunity to conduct a promotion for an Australian Defence Force member.
Afterwards, the Governor-General met with Australian defence personnel from Joint Task Force 633 and took the opportunity to conduct promotions and present honours and awards to members of the task force.
In the evening, the Governor-General concluded his visit to Australian military and diplomatic personnel and returned to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
