On Thursday 26 March 2020, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), spoke with senior representatives of his patronages regarding the impact of COVID-19. This included telephone calls with Mr Richard Haddock AO, Chair, Sisters of Charity Foundation; Mr Mark Stedfut, National General Manager, Scouts Australia; and Mr Clyde Campbell, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Shake It Up Foundation.

Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley also spoke with senior representatives of her patronages regarding the impact of COVID-19. This included telephone calls with Ms Helen Falla, General Manager, Canberra Hospital Foundation; and Ms Michelle Leonard OAM, Artistic Director, and Ms Dayle Lummis, General Manager, Moorambilla Voices.

Afterwards, the Governor-General spoke with Councillor John White, Mayor, East Gippsland Shire Council via telephone regarding the impacts of the bushfires and COVID-19 on the region and its communities.

Later, the Governor-General spoke with Councillor Duncan Gair, Mayor, Wingecarribee Shire Council, via telephone regarding the impacts of the bushfires and COVID-19 on the region and its communities.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as Patron, recorded a video message for the Cancer Council and participated in a virtual Relay for Life on the grounds of Government House.
