On Saturday 20 October 2018, at Victoria Barracks, Sydney, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, and Lady Cosgrove, attended the inaugural Military International Drone Racing Tournament, as guests of Major General Kathryn Toohey AM CSC, Head of Land Capability, Australian Army.

In the evening, at the Sydney Opera House, Their Excellencies attended the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 as guests of Lieutenant General Peter Leahy AC (Retd), Chair, Invictus Games. During the ceremony, the Governor-General, as Ambassador of the Invictus Games, delivered a speech welcoming competitors and visitors to the 2018 Games.
