On Tuesday 26 June 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove attended a Wreath Laying ceremony at Rome War Cemetery and inspected the graves of Australians killed in action during WW1.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of His Excellency Mr Greg French, Ambassador to the Italian Republic and Her Excellency Ms Melissa Hitchman, Ambassador to the Holy See, where Their Excellencies presented awards to long serving staff members for recognition of service, at the Australian Embassy, Rome.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic at Quirinal Palace, Rome.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr French, attended a reception for Australians and Italians from business and defence organisations.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended a dinner to recognise the efforts of staff from the Australian embassies in Rome and the Holy See.
