On Friday 25 May 2018 the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended a breakfast briefing with His Excellency Mr Craig Chittick, Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Ms Karen Lanyon, Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, at the Park Hyatt Saigon, in Ho Chi Minh City.
Afterwards, the Governor-General attended a meeting with His Excellency Mr Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, at the People’s Committee Building.
Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Major General Son, visited trainers and Vietnamese peacekeepers deploying to South Sudan, at Military Hospital 175.
Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Professor Gael McDonald, President and General Director, RMIT University Vietnam, received a brief on RMIT’s presence in Vietnam, followed by a showcase of Australian-Vietnamese innovation partnerships and lunch with university staff and students, at the University’s South Saigon campus.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended a roundtable meeting with members of the Australia-Vietnam Young Leadership Dialogue, at the Park Hyatt Saigon.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Chittick and Ms Lanyon, met with Australian and locally engaged staff of our Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Phong, attended a concert marking 45 years of diplomatic relations between Australian and Vietnam, at the Opera House.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Chittick and Ms Lanyon, attended a reception marking 45 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam, at the Caravelle Hotel.
