On Friday 7 April 2018, at Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre, Queensland, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of President, Commonwealth Games Association, Mr Sam Coffa, attended the 2018 Commonwealth Games 77kg weightlifting men’s final. Their Excellencies watched Mr Francois Etoundi win Bronze.

In the afternoon, at Munro Martin Parklands, Cairns, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mayor, Cairns Regional Council, Councillor Bob Manning OAM, attended the Beginnings: A Musical Story of Cairns performance.

Later, at the Cairns Convention Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Chair, Basketball Australia, Mr Ned Coten, attended the 2018 Commonwealth Games men’s preliminary basketball match between Australia and New Zealand.

Earlier, at Sydney International Airport, The Governor-General was represented by Honorary Aide-de-Camp, Commander Piers Chatterton ADC RAN, at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Major-General Jioji Konousi Konrote OF MC (Retd).
