On Monday 2 April 2018, at the Commonwealth Games Village, Southport, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) as Patron of Commonwealth Games Australia, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Chief Executive Officer, Mr Craig Phillips, addressed the Australian team, viewed the facilities, and met with athletes, coaches, support staff and volunteers.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the Commonwealth Games Village Australian Team Welcome Ceremony.

In the evening, at The Star, Broadbeach, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Chef de Mission, Mr Stephen Moneghetti AM, attended the Australian Commonwealth Games Team reception and flag bearer announcement, at which the Governor-General addressed the team and handed over the Australian Flag to Mr Mark Knowles as the selected flag bearer of the Australian team for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented by Honorary Aide-de-Camp, Commander Mark McConnell ADC RAN for the arrival in Australia of the Governor-General of Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Bob Bofeng Dadae and First Lady Mrs Hannah Dadae.
