On Monday 26 February 2018, at Palais de Nations, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director-General of the United Nations Office Geneva, Mr Micahel Møller, delivered Australia’s National Statement to the High-Level Segment of the 37th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General met with the United Nations Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr António Guterres.

Later, the Governor-General met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Director General, CERN, Dr Fabiola Gianotti, viewed the facility and met with staff.

In the evening, at the Australian Permanent Mission and Consulate-General, Geneva, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Chargé d’affaires, Dr Lachlan Strahan, attended a reception with Australian Embassy staff and members of the Australian-Swiss community.

Earlier, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General was represented by The Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, conducted a swearing-in ceremony at which the Administrator issued the Instrument of Appointment and the Oath of Office to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Honourable Michael McCormack MP.
