On Tuesday 26 September 2017, at Buttes New British Cemetery, Zonnebeke, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium, viewed the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Polygon Wood reflective trail.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the Australian National Commemorative Dawn Service for the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Polygon Wood, at which the Governor-General delivered the commemorative address, and with Lady Cosgrove, laid a wreath.
Later, at the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917, Zonnebeke, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium, attended a memorial breakfast.
Then, the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, presided at an Investiture Ceremony at which he invested Mr Francois Maekelberg OAM, with an Honorary Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division.
Afterwards, at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Defence Attaché, Commemorations, Colonel Scott Clingan, attended a ceremony where the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove rededicated new headstones for two Australian soldiers killed during World War One.
Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited the graves of Captain Clarence Jefferies VC and Sergeant Lewis McGee VC and laid commemorative crosses decorated by Australian students.
In the afternoon, at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Minister for Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Dan Tehan MP, and the Ambassador to the Republic of France, His Excellency Mr Stephen Brady AO CVO, viewed the Sir John Monash Centre.
Afterwards, at Le Saint Pierre Restaurant, Lamont's-Warfusee, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended lunch. Guests included: His Excellency Mr Stephen Brady AO CVO; Mr Simon Lewis PSM; the Honourable Warren Snowden MP; Mr Peter Stephens; and the Honourable Dan Tehan MP.
