Apia, Samoa

On Saturday 1 July 2017, at Tuanaimato sports fields, Samoa, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of General Manager Samoa International Cricket, Sala Stella Vaea, attended a children’s cricket match as part of the Australian aid funded Super Kidz Super Hitz program and faced the first ball.

Afterwards, in Aele Fou, Samoa, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Minister for Education, Sports and Culture, the Honourable Loau Keneti Sio, officially opened an Australian aid funded pre-school.

Later, in Mulinu’u, Samoa, the Governor-General, as guest of the Samaon Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Nafo’itoa Talaimanu Keti, viewed the construction of the new Parliament House as part of the Australian development construction program.

Then, at Mata’utu Wharf, Samoa, the Governor-General, as guest of Inspector Sefo Faafoi Hunt, viewed the Samoan Patrol Boat MV Nafanua as part of the Australian funded Pacific Patrol Boat program.

In the afternoon, in Leone, Samoa, the Governor-General, as guest of the Prime Minister of the Independent State of Samoa, the Honourable Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi MP, officially opened an Australian aid funded bridge.

Afterwards, at the National Museum of Samoa, the Governor-General, as guest of the Chief Executive Officer of Culture, Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, Afamasaga Karoline Afamasaga-Fuata’I, attended the official opening of the Australian Indigenous art exhibition ‘Old Masters Australia’s Great Bark Artists’ in recognition of the start of NAIDOC week in Australia.

In the evening, at the Australian High Commissioner’s residence, Samoa, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Australian High Commissioner to the Independent State of Samoa, Her Excellency Ms Sue Langford, attended a reception with staff working in the Independent State of Samoa.
