Paul Beech ASM OAM believes the greatest impact of his 46 years of volunteering has been the ripple effects created by inspiring others to join in to collectively build a resilient and thriving community.

His tireless and selfless service has been recognised with the award of a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community of Harvey in the King’s Birthday 2024 Honours list.

“Since relocating to Harvey, WA in 1978, I've dedicated myself to volunteering in various roles, whether it's chopping wood, tending to lawns, providing care for the sick, or even directly contributing to life-saving efforts. Through these endeavours, I've had the privilege of positively impacting countless lives, offering assistance and support where it's needed most,” he says. 

Mr Beech has held many roles within the community of Harvey. He was deputy shire president and councillor for the Shire of Harvey and chairman of the Harvey Sub Centre of St John Ambulance, where he was formerly vice-chairman and secretary.

He has also contributed to the local radio network and aged care. 

“Receiving news of being considered for recognition in the Order of Australia was an immensely humbling and gratifying experience. It filled me with a profound sense of honour and validation for the years of dedication and service I've committed to my community and country,” Mr Beech says. 

“Knowing that my efforts have been acknowledged at such a prestigious level instilled a deep sense of pride. 

“I am profoundly grateful for the unwavering support of my wife and family throughout the past 46 years. Their encouragement and understanding have been instrumental in enabling me to pursue and sustain my volunteer work. 

“Additionally, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to [whoever] nominated me for recognition. Their belief in me and recognition of my contributions mean the world to me.”
