Professor Fiona Wood AO
Recognising her remarkable impact, Professor Wood has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to plastic and reconstructive surgery, to medical research, and as clinician scientist and mentor.
“I have been motivated throughout my career by the focus on learning from today to make tomorrow better,” Professor Wood says.
“I think that the greatest impact of my work has been raising the profile of the impact of burn injury. This has driven change from prevention first aid in the community, to innovation and research seeking to improve recovery for life.”
Reflecting that same motivation of continuous improvement, Professor Wood says that her recognition in the Order comes with an ongoing responsibility.
“I am absolutely honoured with the recognition involved in this prestigious award. With it comes the responsibility to continue to drive forward our work caring for those surviving burn injury.
“I would like to thank the team at the Burns Service of Western Australia, with the support of SMHS, CAHS and the Department of Health, the Burn Injury Research Unit at the University of Western Australia, AvitaMedical and the many collaborators locally and globally. I would also like to thank the Fiona Wood Foundation and all those who support the work.
“Beyond all, my family.”
