The Governor-General, as Patron-in-Chief, visited the National Office of the Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) Ex-Servicemen and Women in Richmond, South Australia.

Ms Bryce was welcomed by the National Secretary, Mr Bill Kane OAM, and introduced to TPI officials before meeting members and staff during an afternoon tea.

The TPI Federation was incorporated in 1984 and represents the needs and interests of over 15,000 members.

Governor-General visits Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists Eye Foundation programs

The Governor-General, as Patron of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists Eye Foundation, was invited to observe Foundation programs at the Flinders Medical Centre at Bedford Park in Adelaide.

Ms Bryce was briefed on two projects - the Australia and New Zealand Registry of Advanced Glaucoma and the Australian and New Zealand Ophthalmic (Rare Disease) Surveillance Unit. She met patients receiving treatment for the restoration of sight and prevention of vision loss.

Kura Yerlo Community Centre

On Monday 2 July 2012, at the Kura Yerlo Community Centre, Largs Bay, South Australia, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Chair, Ms Jasmine Tonkin-Croft, met with staff and clients in recognition of NAIDOC Week.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Sprent Dabwido MP, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

Governor-General visits Kura Yerlo Community Centre

As part of a four-day visit to community organisations in Adelaide, the Governor-General marked the beginning of NAIDOC Week with a visit to the Kura Yerlo Community Centre in Largs Bay.

Organisation Chair, Ms Jasmine Tonkin-Croft, and CEO Mr Les Wanganeen took Ms Bryce on a tour of the Centre, which provides early childhood services and programs within the local community, following a Welcome to Country and flag raising ceremony.

Later, the Governor-General met representatives of the Aboriginal Youth Advisory Committee.

Rabaul and Montivideo Maru Memorial Dedication

On Sunday 1 July 2012, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chairman of the Council of the Australian War Memorial, Rear Admiral Ken Doolan AO RAN (Ret’d), attended the Rabaul and Montevideo Maru Memorial dedication service at which the Governor-General gave an address and laid a wreath.

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce were joined by over a thousand people at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra for the dedication of the Rabaul and Montevideo Maru Memorial.

The service marked the 70th anniversary of the sinking of the Japanese prisoner ship Montevideo Maru by the American submarine USS Sturgeon. The action killed 1050 Australian Prisoners of War who had been captured in Rabaul, as well as civilian internees.

Governor-General presents Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarships

The Governor-General’s Indigenous Student Teacher Scholarships were presented to eight indigenous student teachers from across Australia at Government House in Canberra.

The Governor-General met recipients Ms Sandrah Darcy and Mrs Sharon Davis from Western Australia, Mrs Tracy Edwards and Ms Lavinia Gibbs from New South Wales, Mr Glen Malthouse from Queensland, Ms Deanne Powell and Ms Jasmine Sweeney from New South Wales, and Mrs Tracey Tweedie from Queensland.

Each scholarship is valued at $25000 per annum for up to four years to assist with study costs.

Federal Executive Council; Mawson’s Huts Foundation

On Thursday 28 June 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received alumni of the Women’s College of the University of Sydney, Ms Sarah Gavel, Ms Helen Nicholson, Ms Kathryn Minehan and Ms Sarah Salter.

In the evening, the Governor-General as Patron, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a reception for the Mawson’s Huts Foundation.
