On Friday 6 July 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, received the Head of Education at the University of Technology Sydney, Professor Rosemary Johnston.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a lunch in honour of the work of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Elders in preserving Indigenous languages.

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce hosted a lunch in honour of the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders in preserving Indigenous languages at Government House in Canberra.

Lunch guests also included representatives from the inaugural 2012 National Indigenous Youth Parliament and the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport.

Meals on Wheels; Ninti One; Spastic Centres of South Australia

On Thursday 5 July 2012, at Calvary Hospital, North Adelaide, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, met with Dr Mark Moore AM.

Afterwards, at the Meals on Wheels Happy Valley Kitchen, Adelaide, the Governor-General, as Patron and as guest of the National President of the Australian Meals on Wheels Association, Mr Ron Welsh, met with staff and volunteers, before visiting clients during the meal delivery service.

The Governor-General, as Patron of Meals on Wheels, joined volunteers for the daily lunch delivery service around the suburbs surrounding Happy Valley, South Australia.

Earlier, Ms Bryce met staff and volunteers at the Meals on Wheels Kitchen as they were preparing lunches for some of the 8,000 clients who are provided meals each day in South Australia.

The visit also recognised Meals on Wheel’s 60th anniversary of operations.

Governor-General visits Ninti One

The Governor-General, in recognition of NAIDOC Week, visited staff and researchers at the non-for-profit organisation Ninti One in Adelaide.

Chair of Ninti One, Dr Tom Calma AO, took Ms Bryce on a tour of the office before an informal meeting to discuss the work the organisation with staff and researchers.

Ninti One assists in building opportunities through research, expertise, innovation, education and outreach for people living in remote areas of Australia.

Governor-General visits SCOSA's Plympton Community Hub

The Governor-General visited staff and clients at the Spastic Centres of South Australia’s Plympton Community Hub in Adelaide.

Ms Bryce, who is Patron of Cerebral Palsy Australia, viewed the new facility that opened in September 2011.

After meeting clients, the Governor-General presented two certificates to staff members for actively supporting clients and three certificates to clients for reaching personal goals.

On Wednesday 4 July 2012, at the Burnside Public Library, Adelaide, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as Patron, and as guest of the National President of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, Ms Julie Wells, took part in a book reading in recognition of the National Year of Reading, and met with library staff and children.

In the afternoon, at St George College, Mile End, the Governor-General, as Patron, and as guest of the Chair of the Life Education South Australia Board, Mr Steve Kelton, met with staff and students participating in Life Education programs.

The Governor-General, as Patron of the Children's Book Council of Australia joined children at the Burnside Public Library in Adelaide for a book reading to mark the National Year of Reading.

The City of Burnside Mayor, Councillor David Parkin, and the National President of the CBCA welcomed Ms Bryce to the Library before watching a Beatrix Potter inspired ballet performance.

The Governor-General then read "That’s Not a Daffodil" and "No Bears" to 30 local children.

Governor-General visits Life Education program

The Governor-General, as Patron-in-Chief, observed a Life Education secondary school class during a visit to St George College in Mile End, South Australia.

The Life Education South Australia Board Chair, Mr Steve Kelton, and CEO, Mr John Stock OAM greeted Ms Bryce at the school, before she joined the class and met the students.

Over four million students have participated in Life Education's drug and health programs since 1979, including 620,000 in 2011.

On Tuesday 3 July 2012, at the Government House, Adelaide, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO met with the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR.

Afterwards, at the National Office of the Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex-Servicemen and Women, Richmond, the Governor-General, as Patron-in-Chief, and as guest of the National President, Mr David Catterall, met with staff and members.
