Floods February 2022

The Floods February 2022 was declared a nationally-significant emergency for the purpose of the National Emergency Medal on 27 March 2024, per the National Emergency Medal (Floods February 2022) Declaration 2024.

Sustained service eligibility criteria

Floods February 2022

Service during this nationally-significant emergency will be recognised through the clasp, ‘FLOODS FEB 2022’. The National Emergency Medal Committee determined the following criteria:

  • service must be in the protection of lives and property; or in the service of interests, that are not their own; in direct response to the emergency (including support that enables or facilitates the emergency response).
  • the geographical area in Australia where the declared emergency happened, are the Local Government Areas (LGA) listed in the Declaration.
  • the qualifying period for each local government area is listed in the Declaration.
  • the minimum duration of service that a person is required to have completed to qualify for sustained service is 5 days (whether consecutive or not) each involving service in direct response to the declared emergency relating to a local government area in an eligible emergency period for the area.

If you rendered service with a group, agency or organisation during the nationally-significant emergency, please contact your primary service organisation to be considered for the National Emergency Medal with clasp 'FLOODS FEB 2022'. 

All nominations for those who rendered service with a group, agency or organisation must come from the relevant primary service organisations.

If you rendered service as a private citizen, you can submit a nomination in the Australian Honours and Awards Portal.
