Peter Crisp OAM

Peter Crisp is a renowned Australian artist whose glass sculptures have been exhibited around the

world. He has been commissioned to design exclusive pieces for royalty and for some of the most

famous retailers in the world.

His creativity, achievements and impact has now been recognised with a Medal of the Order of

Australia.

Mr Peter Crisp OAM receives the insignia of his award from the Governor-General

Peter didn’t expect the recognition and indeed, on finding out he was to receive it, didn’t believe it

was real.

“I was very humbled, equally excited - it was something I really and truly was not expecting. When I

first heard from Government House I didn’t take it seriously – I actually rang to check,” Peter said.

The response from Government House: that the award was real and that his peers, the Council for

the Order of Australia and Governor-General did indeed think he deserved recognition, has been

reaffirmed by the way people from Peter’s life have responded.

“I had phone calls from all over Australia and around the world – people I had not spoken to for 30

years. I said to them all you’ve been part of the journey.”

Peter speaks passionately about the arts, their role in our society and how important it is that

individuals from the sector are recognised in our nation’s pre-eminent awards system.

“I’m thrilled – especially for the arts and creative arts. The creative arts are part of who we are and

what we are.

“Above all now having being a recipient, I understand and appreciate how important it is – it

endorses what you do, in my case 40 years as an artist. This award has acknowledged that and

encourages me to look around at peers and nominate.”

The Order of Australia relies on nominations - Peter was recognised because someone in his

community recognised his tireless work for others and nominated him. Nominations can be made at

any time, by anyone - find out more.
