Being involved in running schools goes beyond ensuring academic excellence, says Belinda Moss OAM, who has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to education.
As a chair and director on several Anglican school boards, Ms Moss works towards ensuring that those schools not only meet, but also exceed, the expectations of students, parents, staff and the broader community.
“Academic excellence alone is not enough. Exceptional schools imbue students with strong values and ethics. They become people who embrace diversity, grasp leadership opportunities and want to serve and help others. A strong, skilled school board leads a school to thrive and delivers long-lasting benefits to the community.”
Ms Moss says that education is the greatest enabler of all.
“I gladly work on school boards. I am rewarded by seeing confident, empowered students graduate from school with the competence and self-assurance to shape their futures and contribute to society.”
"I undertake these roles to serve my community, not for any recognition. Yet it was a surprise to be recognised and I am delighted.”
“It’s also an acknowledgement of the outstanding people I have the privilege to work with.”
“My sincere thanks to those who had confidence in me and nominated me for the roles I hold; those who give me support and encouragement; and my family who enable me to give of my time and energy.”
