- Governor-General visits Liverpool Neighbourhood Connections

An organisation dedicated to responding to the needs of the wider Liverpool community received a visit from the Governor-General. Ms Bryce met representatives from Liverpool Neighbourhood Connections (LNC) at Warwick Farm and was invited to visit the organisation's premises.

On Thursday 18 October 2012, at Cabramatta Public School, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Principal, Mr John Rice, attended the school’s community day, at which the Governor-General gave an address and met with students and families.

- Governor-General visits Cerebral Palsy Alliance Centre at Prairiewood

The Governor-General recognised the work of carers for family members and clients with cerebral palsy during a visit to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Centre at Prairiewood in south-west Sydney. The visit coincided with Carers Week 2012, which the Governor-General launched at Old Parliament House in Canberra.

- Governor-General visits Benevolent Society’s Liverpool office

Clients and staff at the Benevolent Society’s Liverpool office met the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce during their visit to the organisation. The CEO, Ms Anne Hollonds, welcomed Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce before introducing them to clients who receive assistance through the Society's support programs.

As Patron-in-Chief of Kidney Health Australia (KHA), the Governor-General presented Professor David Harris with the Priscilla Kincaid-Smith Medal during a visit to Westmead Hospital in Sydney.

The Governor-General, as Patron of the Salvation Army, and Mr Michael Bryce met young staff undertaking vocational training at Café Horizons in Cabramatta.

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce made a special visit to Cabramatta Public School to meet students and their families during the school’s annual Community Day.

- St Canice Kitchen; Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre; UN Anti-Poverty Day

On Wednesday 17 October 2012, at St Canice Catholic Church, Elizabeth Bay, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of Father Chris Jenkins, assisted with the lunchtime meal service at St Canice Kitchen.

- United Nations International Anti-Poverty Day

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce marked the United Nations International Anti-Poverty Day with representatives of Sydney-based community welfare organisations at Admiralty House, Sydney.

- Governor-General visits Women's and Girls Emergency Centre

In Surry Hills, Sydney, the Governor-General heard personal stories of women who had experienced homelessness during a visit to the Women's and Girls Emergency Centre. The independent community-based service supports clients who have faced domestic violence, addictions and mental health issues.

- Governor-General assists with St Canice Kitchen lunch service

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce joined Father Chris Jenkins and volunteers of St Canice Kitchen in Kings Cross for the daily lunch service for homeless people. After lunch, Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce heard from some of the homeless men and women about living on Sydney's streets.

- Presentation of Great Artesian Basin map

A map of the Great Artesian Basin was presented to the Governor-General by Great Artesian Basin Coordinating Committee (GABCC) Chairman, Mr Jeff Austin, GABCC Facilitator, Mr Peter Davey, and the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities’ Mr Greg Manning.

- Governor-General launches Carers Week

The Governor-General, as Patron of Carers Australia, launched Carers Week at Old Parliament House. Ms Bryce joined carers, their families and supporters to recognise the work of 2.6 million unpaid family carers in Australia.

On Sunday 14 October 2012, at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Forrest, Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as Patron, attended the St John’s annual service and read the Bidding.

- Palliative Care Australia

On Saturday 13 October 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as Patron, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a reception to mark the 21st Anniversary of Palliative Care Australia.

- 21st anniversary of Palliative Care Australia

As Patron of Palliative Care Australia, the Governor-General hosted an event for supporters, volunteers and carers to mark the 21st anniversary of the organisation. Ms Bryce commended the important work of people who give end of life care during the event, which coincided with World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.

- Bali Bombing Commemoration

On Friday 12 October 2012, at Parliament House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE led the National Commemoration for the 10th Anniversary of the Bali Bombings, at which the Governor-General gave an address and placed a floral tribute on the national wreath with Mr Bryce.

The Governor-General led a National Commemoration marking the 10th anniversary of the Bali Bombings in the Great Hall of Parliament House, Canberra. Joining victims’ families, official guests and members of the public, Ms Bryce paid her respects to the 88 Australians who were killed in the terrorist attack.
