On Monday 13 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received Her Excellency Ms Helena Drnovsek-Zorko, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, for a farewell call.
In the evening, the Governor-General, as the guest of Mrs Judy Mack, President, Legacy Canberra, attended the monthly meeting, at Legacy House, Deakin.
On Sunday 12 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, attended a dedication and commemoration service for the Australian Jewish War Memorial as guests of Dr Merrilyn Sernack, Secretary, ACT Jewish Community, at the National Jewish Memorial Centre, Forrest.
On Saturday 11 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, met with staff and patients at Thursday Island Hospital, as guests of Mr Andy Marshall, Executive General Manager.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove travelled to Friday Island and viewed operations at Kazu Pearl Farm, as guests of Mr Takami Kazuyoshi, Owner Operator.
Then, Their Excellencies attended a lunch with Councillor Vonda Malone, Mayor, Torres Shire Council.
On Friday 10 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, met with the ship’s company of ADV Cape Inscription during the ship’s logistics visit to Thursday Island, as guests of Lieutenant Commander Luke Weston RAN.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove travelled to Mer Island, and were welcomed by the Mer Island community during a traditional ceremony as guests of Mr Aven Noah, Member for Mer, Torres Strait Regional Authority.
On Thursday 9 August 2018, at RAAF Base Scherger, North Queensland, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, met with ADF personnel from the 5th Aviation Regiment and their family members.
Afterwards, Their Excellencies travelled to Thursday Island and were welcomed by Councillor Vonda Malone, Mayor of the Torres Shire Council and Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, Chair of the Torres Strait Regional Authority.
On Wednesday 8 August 2018, at Darling Harbour, Sydney, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended the Indigenous Marathon Project Camp, as guests of Mr Robert de Castella AO MBE, Director, where they met with squad members and participated in a group discussion.
On Tuesday 7 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended a pre-dinner reception to mark the discovery of His Majesty’s Australian Submarine AE1, as guests of Mr John Mullen, Chair, Australian National Maritime Foundation, at the Australian Maritime Museum, Sydney.
Earlier, Lady Cosgrove, as Patron, and the Governor-General, hosted a reception for Paint the Town REaD, at Admiralty House, Sydney.
On Sunday 5 August 2018, at Sydney Olympic Park, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Her Excellency Lady Cosgrove, attended the 2018 Wheelchair Rugby World Championship Opening Ceremony and watched the Australian ‘Steelers’ versus New Zealand ‘Wheel Blacks’, as guests of Mr Steve Loader, Chairman, 2018 Wheelchair Rugby World Championship Organising Committee.
On Thursday 2 August 2018, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.
Afterwards, the Governor-General received members of the National Malaya & Borneo Veterans Association. Members included: Mr Owen Marshall, National President; Mr Ian Davenport, President, ACT/NSW Branch; Mr Brian Selby, SA/NT Branch; and Mr Ben Thurlow, Secretary, VIC Branch.
On Wednesday 1 August 2018, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) was represented by Colonel Christopher Austin ADC, Honorary Aide-de-Camp, for the arrival to Australia of His Excellency the Honourable Baron Waqa MP, President of the Republic of Nauru.
Earlier, the Governor-General met with students from St Joseph’s Memorial School, SA; Bankstown Public School; and Noumea Public School, NSW, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
