The Governor-General, as Patron of Yalari, presented graduation certificates to 20 indigenous students from around Australia during a ceremony at the Australian Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre, Canberra.

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce welcomed ten Permanent Representatives to the United Nations to Government House, Canberra. Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce hosted an afternoon tea for the delegation, which has been engaged in meetings across Australia.

On Thursday 2 August 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council. Afterwards, the Governor-General received the High Commissioner-designate to Brunei Darussalam, Mr Todd Mercer.

The Governor-General launched the book The Forgotten Holocaust: A Gypsy’s Journey from Auschwitz to Freedom at the National Library of Australia, Canberra. Written by Ms Caroline Cooper MVO, the book is a fictional story about an English Gypsy who survives internment in a Polish concentration camp and migrates to Australia.

On Wednesday 1 August 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a reception to mark the launch of the Migration Council of Australia.

On Tuesday 31 July 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, received the Australian Ambassador to Lebanon, Mr Lex Bartlem OAM. Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Chief of the Defence Force, General David Hurley AC DSC.

On Friday 27 July 2012, at Leap Frog Ability, Islington, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Chair, Mr Scott Pfeiffer, met with staff and clients.

- Governor-General visits Leap Frog Ability

The Governor-General made a return visit to the not-for-profit organisation Leap Frog Ability to view the new Education and Resource Centre in Islington, Newcastle. Ms Bryce met clients living with a disability and staff members, before viewing a women’s training course at the Centre.

The Governor-General officially opened the Gateshead Breast and Endocrine Centre, which caters for the increasing incidence of breast cancer in the local Newcastle community. Ms Bryce commended the work and support given by the Centre’s staff before touring the facility with Centre Director Mr David Clark.

On Thursday 26 July 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received from His Excellency Mr Reha Keskintepe, Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey.

The Governor-General paid tribute to the work of individuals reshaping the futures of vulnerable and disadvantaged Australians during a dinner marking Social Ventures Australia’s 10th anniversary.

On Tuesday 24 July 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, hosted a lunch in honour of the Director of Museo del Prado, Mr Miguel Zugaza. Guests included: Mrs Rebecca Bleich, Ms Louise Doyle, Dr Gabrielle Finaldi, Ms Carol Henry, and Dr Ron Radford AM.

On Monday 23 July 2012, at the Southern Cross Club, Phillip, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Founder and Chair of the Alola Foundation, Ms Kirsty Sword Gusmão, attended the launch of the 2012 Alola Milk Campaign.

On Saturday 21 July 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, welcomed the Founder and Chair of the Alola Foundation, Ms Kirsty Sword Gusmão as a houseguest.

On Friday 20 July 2012, at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds, Bendigo, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the convenors, Ms Robyn Russell and Ms Jacqueline McArthur, attended the Women of Wool Lunch, and delivered an address.

- Governor-General attends 2012 Australian Sheep and Wool Show

The Governor-General joined Women of Wool at a lunch on the 135th anniversary of the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo, Victoria. After the lunch, Ms Bryce presented Show awards for the Champion Australian Fleece, the Champion Merino Pair, and gave ribbons to School Junior Sheep Breeder winners.

The Governor-General joined parents and students to mark the 130th anniversary of the Methodist Ladies College at a dinner at the Melbourne Cricket Club. Ms Bryce discussed the schools distinguished history since 1882 in an address to 200 people.

- Fromelles Memorial Service at the Shrine of Remembrance

The Governor-General joined families and relatives of some of the over 5500 Australian soldiers who were killed or injured during the World War I Battle of Fromelles, France, for the annual commemorative service held beside ‘Cobbers’ statue at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.
