On Friday 24 August 2018, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the resignation of the Honourable Malcom Turnbull MP as Prime Minister of Australia.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General issued the Oath of Office to the newly-appointed Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable Scott Morrison MP, and Treasurer, the Honourable Joshua Frydenberg MP.

On Wednesday 23 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), met with students from Humpybong State School; and Goondiwindi State School, QLD, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.

On Wednesday 22 August 2018, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), met with students from Brandon Park Primary School, VIC; Lancelin Primary School, WA; Windsor State School; and Mirani State School, QLD, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.

On Monday 20 August 2018, Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, were officially welcomed at Dubbo Regional Airport by Councillor Ben Shields, Mayor of the Dubbo Regional Council, and Mr Michael McMahon, Chief Executive Officer.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove appeared as guests on a special episode of The Today Show – being broadcast from Dubbo Showgrounds – where they expressed support for families and communities being affected by drought around Australia.

On Sunday 19 August 2018, at Canberra Airport, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) was represented by Mr Paul Singer MVO, Acting Official Secretary, for the arrival to Australia of Mr Andrzej Duda, President of the Republic of Poland and Mrs Agata Kornhauser-Duda.

On Saturday 18 August 2018, Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended the Vietnam Veterans’ Day remembrance service as guests of Wing Commander Ian Thompson (Retd), President, Vietnam Veterans and Veterans Federation ACT, at the Vietnam Forces National Memorial, Campbell.

On Friday 17 August 2018, Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of The Honourable Dr Brendan Nelson AO, attended the re-dedication of the Long Tan Cross at the Australian War Memorial.

In the evening, the Governor-General was represented at Melbourne International Airport for the arrival to Australia of His Excellency Mr Andrzej Duda, President of the Republic of Poland, by Honorary Aide-de-Camp, Air Commodore Glen Braz ADC.

On Thursday 16 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received Her Excellency Mrs Minda Calaguian-Cruz, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a lunch for the Duntroon Guides.

Then, the Governor-General received Dr Martin Parkinson AC PSM, Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

On Wednesday 15 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, hosted the inaugural National Science Week Design Challenge at Government House, Canberra. Held in conjunction with Questacon, the event saw over 140 students from 27 primary schools participate in a range of activities to build their understanding about science and technology.

On Tuesday 14 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) received Lieutenant General John G Castellaw USMC (Retd), at Government House, Canberra.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended the 2019 Canberra Symphony Orchestra Season Launch, at the National Portrait Gallery, Parkes, as guests of Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK AFC (Retd), Chair, Canberra Symphony Orchestra.
