On Tuesday 31 October 2017, at Parliament House, Darwin, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General administered the Oath of Office to the Administrator of the Northern Territory, Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AM.
Afterwards, the Governor-General, as guest of the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, the Honourable Michael Gunner MLA, attended a reception.
On Monday 30 October 2017, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received Mr Stephen Brady AO CVO.
In the evening, Lady Cosgrove, as Patron, hosted a reception for the Partners of Veteran’s Association.
Afterwards, in Darwin, the Governor-General hosted a dinner with the Administrator of the Northern Territory, His Honour the Honourable John Hardy AO, and Mrs Marie Hardy.
On Friday 27 October 2017, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), hosted a swearing-in ceremony to issue the Instrument of Appointment and the Oath of Office to the Prime Minister of Australia, Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP.
Afterwards, the Governor-General hosted a swearing-in ceremony to issue the Instrument of Appointment and the Oath of Office to the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Senator the Honourable Matthew Canavan.
On Thursday 26 October 2017, in Bangkok, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove received a briefing from the Ambassador to Thailand, His Excellency Mr Paul Robilliard.
Afterwards, at the Australian Embassy, Bangkok, as guests of Mr Robilliard, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, viewed the facilities of the new Embassy and met with staff.
Later, in Bangkok, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Governor-General of Canada, the Right Honourable Julie Payette OC CQ.
On Wednesday 25 October 2017, at Rafic Hariri International Airport, Beirut, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove were farewelled from the Republic of Lebanon by the Ambassador to Lebanon, His Excellency Mr Glenn Miles, and the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, His Excellency Dr Pierre Raffoul.
On Tuesday 24 October 2017, at the Beirut War Cemetery, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as guest of the Caretaker of the Commonwealth War Graves facilities, Mr Yahya Bsat, viewed Australian War Graves and laid a wreath at the base of the commemorative cenotaph.
Afterwards, at Martyrs’ Square, Beirut, the Governor-General, as guest of the Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mr Yacoub Sarraf, attended a commemorative ceremony and laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Square Statue.
On Monday 23 October 2017, at the Presidential Palace, Beirut, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove as guests of the President of the Republic of Lebanon, His Excellency Mr Michel Naim Aoun, and Mrs Nadia Al Chami, attended a Ceremonial Welcome.
Afterwards, the Governor-General attended a meeting with His Excellency Mr Michel Naim Aoun.
Later, the Governor-General and His Excellency Mr Michel Naim Aoun held an expanded meeting with Australian and Lebanese officials.
On Sunday 22 October 2017, at the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director of the Egyptian Museum, Ms Sabah Abd El Razaki, and Egyptologist, Mrs Jane Smyth, viewed exhibits.
Afterwards, at the Unknown Soldier Memorial, Cairo, the Governor-General laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider and at the Tomb of President Sadat.
On Saturday 21 October 2017, at the Commonwealth War Cemetery, El Alamein, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, represented the Government and the people of Australia at the international ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein commemoration at which the Governor-General delivered the poem ‘El Alamein’ by John Jarmain, and together with Lady Cosgrove, laid a wreath.
