On Friday 8 February 2008, in Emerald, Queensland, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, as guest of the Mayor of Emerald Shire Council, Councillor Peter Maguire, visited members of the local community affected by the recent floods and thanked emergency personnel, local volunteers and support groups involved in the relief efforts.
