On Tuesday 22 January 2008, at Government House, Hobart, Tasmania, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received Honorary Aides-de-Camp to the Governor-General, Colonel Stephen Carey ADC and Wing Commander Charles Hill ADC.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Leader of the Australian Antarctic Division Ice, Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate Program, Dr Ian Allison, accompanied by Australian Antarctic Division Glaciologists, Dr Mark Curran and Dr Tessa Vance.

On Friday 11 January 2008, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC wrote to the Premiers of New South Wales and Queensland offering a message of sympathy and support for the communities affected by flooding and acknowledging the contribution of emergency service workers and volunteers.
