On Saturday 21 May 2011, at Sydney Theatre, Walsh Bay, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC, as guest of the Director of the Commonwealth Foundation, Mr Mark Collins, presented the ‘Best Book’ and ‘Best First Book’ awards at the 2011 Commonwealth Writer’s Prize, as part of the 2011 Sydney Writer’s Festival.

On Friday 20 May 2011, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a reception for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize as part of the 2011 Sydney Writer’s Festival,

Earlier, Mr Bryce received the Chairman of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce Australia and New-Zealand, Mr Paul Vittles.

On Thursday 19 May 2011, at Royal Australian Air Force Base Amberley, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the Number 2 Air Field Defence Squadron Standard Parade, at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, presented the Governor-General’s Banner.

On Wednesday 18 May 2011, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the 14th National Alzheimer’s Australia Conference, at which the Governor-General, as Patron, delivered the opening address.

Afterwards, in Dalby, Queensland, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Principal, Ms Mona Anau, and in recognition of the school’s 150th Anniversary, attended the Dalby State School’s sports carnival and later met with students, teachers and parents.

On Tuesday 17 May 2011, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received from His Excellency Mr Hynek Kmonicek, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Czech Republic. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Radim Pecl (Counsellor).

Afterwards, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Omar Gibril Sallah, Letters of Commission accrediting him as High Commissioner for the Republic of The Gambia.

On Monday 16 May 2011, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Principal of Brisbane Girls’ Grammar School, Dr Amanda Bell.

In the afternoon, at Festival Hall, West Melbourne, the Governor-General was represented at the State Funeral Service for the late Mr Lionel Edmund Rose MBE, by Colonel Michael Annett CSC ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
